WassUp plugin makes reading stats more fun
April 13th, 2008
I have recently visited Blog Perfume and discovered WassUp, a crazily comprehensive stats plugin that lets you see your visitors in real time. This, in my opinion, blows Wordpress Stats out of the water in its features. Not only does it track regular visitors, but it also tracks spiders and other blog-sniffing tools, which you might catch as spam, as well as a lot of relevant information such as their browser and approach to getting to your blog. The impressive (and stalker-ish) Spy tool lets you delve into what your readers are doing at any moment. A visual chart of activity is created and updated constantly, which shows up in the front Dashboard page as well. With this, you may not even need to login to your Wordpress.com account to check its stats.
I would still use Wordpress’s own stats tool to get the “big picture”, but for cool little details you can just use WassUp. WassUp is touted for “SEO or statistics maniacs”, but anyone would learn something about the traffic they get. It might be overwhelming at first, so check their online Wiki, which provides a reasonable user guide. Supposedly, there were a lot of security bugs before, but all of the known bugs have been patched up by the latest version, 1.5.
